What Are Aggressive Skate Wheels?

Aggressive inline wheels’ diameter are smaller than other inline skate wheels. Their diameter ranges from 54mm to 64mm and the small size allows skaters to run lower to the ground for more control, grant quicker acceleration and accommodate grinds. Aggressive wheels are also very hard and feature a flat profile, looking very much like a rounded rectangle. The purpose of this design is to provide aggressive skaters with a large and stable landing surface when performing jumps and tricks.

How Do I Choose Aggressive Inline Wheels?

Choosing aggressive wheels depends on your skating style. Harder wheels will make you roll faster but will slow you down on rough city streets. They are recommended for aggressive park skaters riding on smooth surfaces. Softer wheels perform well on rough areas and are used by those aggressive skaters that perform tricks in everyday urban environments.

Aggressive Wheels Profiles: Flat, Round & Bullet

As mentioned, aggressive skaters often prefer wheels with flat profiles. They do not just improve stability but also help skaters not to get stuck on bars when performing grinds.

However, aggressive wheels are also developed with round and bullet (pointy) profiles. Rounded-shaped wheels are preferred in urban settings, delivering good stability and turning ability. Bullet profile wheels are the most dynamic wheel type, making skaters roll fast and turn quickly at the cost of stability. This kind of wheel is recommended for slalom and freestyle skating in the city.

Aggressive Grind Wheels for Rails, Boxes and More

Grind wheels, as the name implies, are made for grinding in aggressive skating. They are not for rolling on which is why the wheels are significantly harder and smaller than normal aggressive wheels. While normal inline skate wheels can have a wheel hardness of around 80 - 90 on the durometer scale, grind wheels are made to be as hard as possible. The wheel hardness is normally above 100A.

The reason why hard inline grind wheels are used for grinding is because the wheels can consistently slide on rails, boxes and other objects without abruptly gripping the surface. Softer wheels create more friction and can cause the skater to lose balance and fall. If you are riding with an anti rocker frame, as well as changing the grind wheels, you can change the front and back to regular aggressive skate wheels when it’s time to upgrade.
